Battery Storage
Solar panels require sunlight to create energy, so as soon as it's dark you’ll be back to using expensive power from the grid.
Having battery storage installed means the surplus solar energy generated during the day can be fed into the battery. The batteries are charged during the day by means of solar energy. The surplus solar energy is fed into the battery and stored rather than being exported back to the national grid. This is a far more cost-effective use of the energy produced as the cost of using energy from the national grid is far higher than is paid for feeding energy back onto the grid. This, therefore, provides a faster return on investment than installing Solar PV panels only and on average results in a 70% reduction in your electricity bill.
During summertime, when there is adequate solar energy, the home can run for much longer without relying on the national grid. Batteries can assist home owners and businesses reduce electricity bills while maximising energy independence from the grid. Any surplus power produced can be sold back to the grid via the SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) scheme. Your energy provider will send you tax free payments for providing them with green energy. In addition, smart technology within the battery will calculate the best time to buy energy from the grid ensuring you buy at the very best time possible. Energy prices work on supply and demand so are cheapest in the middle of the night when demand is low. Your battery can make profit for you from buying energy when it is at it’s cheapest and selling back the surplus energy during times when prices are at their peak. This means there is great benefit in installing battery storage in your home or business, even if you do not have solar pv panels installed.

VAT
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced in March 2022 that VAT on installing energy efficient systems would be reduced from 5% to 0%. Mr. Sunak said “A family having solar panels installed will see tax savings worth over £1,000 and savings on their energy bill of over £300 per year." This measure runs from April 2022 for a full 5 years until 2027 and will reduce the cost of installation for the end user. The reduction in up front cost will in turn reduce the length of time it takes for the solar panels to pay for themselves and start retuning a profit. This, along with the ever-increasing energy prices means there couldn’t be better time to get involved in the green revolution."
